Our Prima Setapak Polling day

I was trying to post something but my internet speed was down to a snail's space. People asked me whether I was sad. Yes, I was. People asked me whether I was dissapointed. Yes, I was. People asked me whether I was angry. Yes, I was. I would be lying if I said no. I felt a sense of relief that it was over.The residents have spoken out. The have made made their choices. To those who have voted for and who have trusted me, I thank them. To those whom I had offended in the run up to the election, a thousand apologies to them.

The response to the meeting was very good. Usually for a condo, you would not see this type of turnout. I may have played a part by defending myself against the allegtions made against me in the run up to the election.But, that is over now. As I had expected , the retired old man stood up to oppose my nomination. It was followed by the sundry shop owner who does not own an inch of land at Prima. He made some groundless allegations against me. He deliberately trying to creat a negative perception of me. I don't understand why he was so angry with me. He thought that I was the cause of all his miseries or he was appointed to be the proxy to bring me down. With these oppositions, I knew that the battle was over for me. Negative impacts and doubts were already created in the minds of the residents there..

' They ' really have the liberty to choose whom they want in the committee. The rich old man has got 10 votes with him. The sundry shop owner who lives in the Genting Court low cost flat has got 6 votes with him. Together they made up 16 votes. They just have to wait for the instruction to vote. That is why a housewife who does not know what JMB is was elected into the committee. Another was a stranger who acted as a proxy for his brother.

Kelvyn Soh from UOA was invited to explain to the residents on the cost of the card access and the process on how the company was appointed. I had already left the scene. I did not wish to stay behind to explain anymore. I have nothing more to say. What the lawyer said was right , Kelvyn was not here to clean or clear my name. He was just here to brief and explain. It 's up to the residents whether to accept or not to accept.

As for me, as I have said in my previous blog if I lose I shall lead a more peaceful life. No more meetings and no more paper work to do and there is no more comeback for me. I would not want to be a controversial figure anymore. I shall be like the other owners minding my own business. I shall continue to write but I would not be able to provide my readers with the first hand info on Prima anymore. I wish the new team the best of luck. Hopefully, they will work hard to uphold their manifesto to bring Prima to greater heights.

A show cause letter given by the chairman.

The RA Chairman has given me a show cause letter and he wanted to me to reply to him within seven days on the issues raised by him failing which it is not mentioned. Failing which, is he going to sack me ? Who is to he give to me a show cause letter? Did he get the consent from a full committee meeting? His committee meetings throughout the year should be declared null and void due to the reasons that proper procedures were not followed.

To tell you the truth, throughout his tenure as a chairman, from the day one he was elected until today, there was hardly a proper committee meeting held . There were no agendas, there were no minutes and the worst thing there was no quorum at all. There were no issues on security . There were no issues on operation matters . It was like a discussion at the mamak stall during our committee meeting. I have never turned this into an issue. I was very reluctant to wash dirty lining in the public. The circumstances has forced me to so. I have been pushed to the corner. I have to defend myself. I have been too defensive all this while. I did not start the whole thing. They started it. I wanted to work with them but they turned me down. They sent a rep to persuade me not to attend the meeting. The chairman told me he could work with me and he welcomed people who can contribute. But at the same there was an old retired man from Block C collecting signatures to stop me from taking part in the election. But also at the same time there was a choy tan ( a list of JMB committee ) with the chairman's name first and signed by him. They have assumed to be the JMB Committee for Prima. All these was a ploy to take me out of the picture.

Another thing which I wish to clarify on the issue on the Chinese educated and the English educated. I speak a lot of Chinese at home . I speak Chinese to my wife. When I mentioned Chinese educated , I am referring to those who raise their voice to intimidate you, those whom you cannot have a decent discussion. They just shout and shout. We have English educated people who are like this too. If I have been misunderstood, I wish to extend my sincere apology to all those Chinese educated owners. I do not wish to cause a rift between those from Block A and Block C but it so happen that most of those who are angry with me because of the card access are from Block C.

I don't understand why they keep harping on the card access issue. All the while, they think that it can be done for RM 150 000 because the chairman came out with such a quotation after the whole project was completed. I can do that too. This is just a ploy to confuse the people and to fish for votes. The meeting on the 27th will be a hot one. It will be very tense. The chairman of the meeting must do a good job to control the crowds. He must follow the agenda strictly. On my part, I shall leave to the floor to decide.

JMB Committee election declaration ( Choy Tan , the list )


When someone called to inform me that a group of residents had prepared a 'choy tan' for the election, I was a little doubtful. I only suspected that there was such a list. When I received a copy of the list which I found in my letter box, my suspicion was confirmed. There is such a list indeed. Later, I saw the list being displayed at the lift lobbies.

Before I received the list , a rep from the group had made a request to meet him at the mamak shop for a discussion. When we met, I asked him whether anyone, the chairman or any other people knew that he was meeting me. He said no. We had a long discussion. He told me not to attend the meeting on the day when they elect the committee members. He told me that a group of residents are very angry me and they are going to bring up the issue pertaining to the card access. This group of people are going to be unruly and create a scene. He was very concerned over my safety. I told him stricly that under no circumstances that I shall miss the meeting. I further told him that my position lies with the voters. If they choose to elect me, I shall continue to contribute. If not, I shall withdraw gracefully and lead a more peaceful life. Despite all the things said about me, I can still walk with my head held high. My conscience is very clear. As I had said if I do not attend the meeting, it will only confirm what others had said about me.

The next day , I received a surprise call from the chairman of the R.A. He wanted to find out whether I would be implicated if someone were to make a police report or a report to BPR. I told him that anyone who had any doubt over the cost on the implementation of the card access can make a report to the relevant agencies. I don't give a damn. I told him the history before the implementation and how some committee members twisted the stories and started spreading all kind of nonsence about me. I told him that I will not stop anyone from pursuing the matter on the cost of the card access with the developer. I told him that I just want to contribute because I have a little experience over property management. Most of the other committee members are only there to make up the numbers. I further told him that I would not challenge him for the chairman post. I do not mind if I am just an ordinary committee member. He told me that he welcomed people who can contribute and he can work with me. I also asked him whether there is already a ' choy tan ' ( a list of committee members) . He said no.

I don' t know who to believe any more. They had already called themselves the JMB election committee. It was signed by the R.A. chairman. My name is not in the list . I was perceived as a threat to them. If I am elected, I shall be the lonely DAP member in the committee. I don't belong to any group. I can work with anyone. I don't ask people to vote for me, I only ask them to use their judgement to vote. My fate lies with the voters.

Election fever in Prima Setapak


There is an election fever going on in the country but at Prima we are already having our own version of fever. We shall go to the polls on Wednesday 27th Feb 2008 at 5.30 pm. A group of residents have already started their campaign. They have come out with their 'choy tan' ( the list of committee members ) whom they are going to elect to sit in the committee. I was also told that they are going from door to door to carry out a petition to stop me from being nominated. They perceive me as a threat to them. They had already sent out feelers to persuade me from taking part in the election. What they are demanding does not make sense. They are actually asking me not exercise my right as a legitimate owner of my property. If I do not attend this meeting, the percussions for me would be very much greater. All the owners would have the perception that I had benefitted from the implementation of the card access system. This card issue would not just die off. They keep harping on its cost and effectiveness. I would surely attend this meeting. I have done nothing shameful. I have not committed any CBT. I have not abused my power. Why can't I face the residents?

I don't mind these Chinese educated group of residents going round campaigning. But these people are not carrying out a campaign to elect their members, they are carrying out a smearing campaign against me. They told the residents that I was responsible for increasing the cost from RM 100 000 to RM 300 000. Somebody said that it could be done for RM 150 000 and now it can be done for RM 100 000. I just don't know what other allegations which they have against me. They are going all out stop me from being elected. They may even cause a scene or become unruly on the day of the election. They would not accept any explanations. To them, the cost is too high and unacceptable and it is the white elephant of Prima Setapak and nothing else. The glass doors must go and this is what they are going to do if I am out of the picture. The total cost now is RM240 000. The guards have told me that since the implementation of the card access, there were no reports of break-ins at all ( Correct me if I am wrong) Previously, there were an average of ten break-ins every year. Tell this group of residents , they would not want to listen to this. To them, Mr See must dissappear.

I shall not be deterred by all this negative publicity. I shall and will attend the meeting . I want it to be a fair contest. There are so many things to do when the JMB is formed. You have to set the house rules, determine the amount of maintenance fees, appointing a new management agent and the most important task is to acquire the fund from the developer. I just want to be there to contribute. I went through all these things before. These people are not looking at the bigger picture. To them, my weakness is the card access.

Residents from Block A must turn up on that day to exercise their rights to vote. If they can't make it , they can appoint proxies to do it. If they decide to do away with the card access, Block A residents have much to suffer. The lifts will always be full again. People will be passing through the lift lobby day and night.

Briefing on the formation of JMB by the developer

I was actually a little embarrassed for being late to the briefing. I got the time wrong. I thought it was supposed to start at 10.30 a.m. I am actually a very punctual guy. I just don't like to be late for anything.

When I took my seat, they had already started. Kumpulan Sejahtera Sdn Bhd had engaged a legal firm to carry out the briefing. The same legal firm will also be responsible for organizing the meeting to elect the committee members to form the JMC ( Joint Committee Members ) on Thursday , 27th February at 5.30p.m. The lawyer by the name of James explained at length on the role played by JMB. He also explained the procedures for electing the committee members, the appointment of proxies and the nomination of committee members. Half way through the meeting, a purchaser wanted to know the total cost of the card access system and the CCTV. One lady from Block C with a mole on her face who had spoken out strongly against the implementation of the card access in a previous dialogue session during my tenure as a chairman wanted to know whether the card access system can be abolished or not. She claimed that her movements have been restricted and she has been greatly inconvenienced. She also wanted to know whether the money will be refunded should the system is abolished. All these questions were not relevant to the agenda set for the briefing at all. These people hardly know the significant on the formation of JMB. They still harbour a grudge against me.

The management had informed the R.A. that the total cost on the installation of the card acceess and the CCTV is about RM 240 000 which is way below the RM 300 000 figure which I and other committee members were told in our meeting with them during the controversial period before the implementation. However, this new info will not correct the perception that there had been a cost over-run because someone had told them that the whole system can be done for RM 150 000. What the lawyer said was right, in any condo, nothing but money is the main issue.

I have been nominated to sit in the committee. If someone nominates me to be the chairman, I shall definitely decline. As I have said in my previous blog, I wish to contribute but not to lead anymore. As a chairman, his responsibility is very heavy now. He cannot point his finger at anybody now. The developer is no longer responsible for the management of Prima Setapak. The JMC has taken over this role.

I foresee some problems cropping up during the election of the committee members Hopefully it would not turn out to be like the AGM that we had in 2007. Block C owners can rest assured that I shall not contest for the chairman post. I don't know whether anyone is carrying a campaign or have appointed a proxy to carry out a campaign against me . I don't really care anymore. My passion for this voluntary work is no longer there. As I had said I just wish to contribute and I know I can do much more than other committee members.
